Coffee Shop sebagai Ruang Belajar Alternatif: Pengaruh Lingkungan Belajar terhadap Keterlibatan dan Kinerja Akademik Mahasiswa

Abstrak

Perkembangan pola belajar mahasiswa di era digital telah mendorong pergeseran ruang belajar dari lingkungan kampus konvensional menuju ruang-ruang informal, salah satunya coffee shop. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh learning environment pada coffee shop terhadap student engagement dan academic performance mahasiswa, serta menguji peran mediasi student engagement dalam hubungan tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif eksplanatori dengan desain cross-sectional survey. Data dikumpulkan dari 100 mahasiswa aktif di Kota Padangsidimpuan yang pernah belajar di coffee shop minimal dua kali dalam sebulan terakhir, dipilih melalui purposive sampling. Analisis data menggunakan Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) dengan bantuan SmartPLS 4. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa learning environment berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap student engagement dan academic performance, serta student engagement berpengaruh positif terhadap academic performance dan berperan sebagai mediator parsial antara learning environment dan academic performance. Temuan ini memperkuat Third Place Theory dan Self-Determination Theory dalam konteks pendidikan tinggi, sekaligus menawarkan kebaruan berupa integrasi ruang belajar informal komersial ke dalam kerangka learning environment akademik. Penelitian ini berkontribusi secara teoritis dengan memperluas cakupan learning environment di luar setting formal, dan secara praktis memberikan rekomendasi bagi perguruan tinggi serta pengelola coffee shop dalam mendesain ruang yang mendukung produktivitas belajar mahasiswa.
